The Gospel According to Christian

Recently, a young man named Christian was attending worship service at American Lutheran in Kellogg, Idaho with his family. Christian was about eight years old at the time. The season was Lent, the service was structured around the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion, the sermon was on that topic.

Sometime near the beginning of the sermon Christian had reversed himself in the pew, and slipped down onto the floor on his knees. Using the pew seat as a writing desk, he had picked up a pencil, placed an attendance card on his improvised writing desk, and busily went to work drawing on it.

Had you been watching Christian, you would have thought that he was mentally somewhere other than a worship service.

Soon the service ended. Christian and the rest of the congregation began to exit the sanctuary. Someone looked down at the pew, saw his drawing and saved it from being tossed in the trash when tidying up after the service.

The inset at the middle of this image is Christian's drawing. When asked what the elements in the drawing meant, his response was to tape the attendance card to a larger piece of paper and desecibe there in writing what was on the drawing.

Thank you, Christian, for giving us another look at the Gospel.
